Custom, High Quality, One-of-a-Kind Furniture Creations

Doug Frederick, a forestry professor with a passion for quality hardwoods, creates furniture with unusual, hand selected, highly-figured boards and slabs with natural edges. He specializes in tables (coffee, dining, conference, occasional/end), headboards, and specialty pieces (cribs, sideboards, buffets, and cabinets).

Each board or slab Doug works with has a distinct character and beauty of its own. His custom, pieces complement the natural contours and grain of the wood. Many of his designs are inspired by George Nakashima, an icon in furniture design and master furniture maker from Pennsylvania. However, Doug has taken these designs and has added his own special touch to create some very unusual, custom one-of-a-kind pieces.

Doug builds his furniture with hardwoods such as black cherry, black walnut, sugar maple, red oak, African bubinga and ebony. Other species are available upon request for commissioned pieces

All of Doug's creations are hand-made in his wood shop in Raleigh, North Carolina.
